Chef Jimmy Alvarado

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Chef Jimmy Alvarado comes from a family of chefs, where food was more than just nourishment—it was a way of life. After moving to Martha’s Vineyard at 26, he quickly became part of the island’s culinary fabric, honing his skills at The Beach Plum Inn, The Harbor View Hotel, Isola, and Lambert’s Cove Inn before launching his own ventures: Tigerhawk Sandwich Co. and On Time Catering.



 

Jimmy’s approach to food is unbound by a single cuisine. Instead, he fuses flavors from around the world, drawing from his Peruvian heritage and international travels to create dishes that are both inventive and deeply personal. Whether through a thoughtfully crafted sandwich or an elegant multi-course tasting menu, his food reflects a passion for bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and artistic plating.

At On Time Catering, Jimmy brings his unique culinary style to private events and weddings, curating unforgettable dining experiences rooted in seasonality, technique, and creativity . His work highlights Martha’s Vineyard’s rich bounty, forming close relationships with local farmers and fishermen to showcase the island’s best ingredients.

Jimmy has worked in James Beard Awarded Restaurants in New York City.  His travels and diverse work have amplified his use of flavor and creativity. Jimmy has been reviewed several times by MVTimes, The Vineyard Gazette, the Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post for his excellent and creative cuisine.  In 2016, he won the Local Wild Food Challenge.

Cannot recommend enough! Chef Jimmy and his server/bartender Brittany were amazing. I hired Chef Jimmy to cook a private dinner for 8 people for a bachelorette party. He created 3 hors d’oeuvres and a 3 course dinner for a very reasonable price (especially for Martha’s Vineyard). Everyone absolutely loved the food and the experience. We got to relax and have fun while the passed apps were served and then sit down around the dining table together for the dinner. Chef Jimmy was friendly and talented. He even left all of the leftovers in the fridge, so we had food for the next day! And it was such a relief that he and Brittany cleaned the entire kitchen before leaving. Jimmy and Rachel catered my 50th birthday/our vow renewal party. Rachel worked really hard with us to stay within budget! The party was outdoors at a nature preserve that usually doesn't host private parties and requires a lot of paperwork, and Rachel and Jimmy really worked with us and the nature preserve to hold the party in a low-impact, sustainable way. Despite having to cook outdoors on-premises, the food was AMAZING! We had fresh fish, steak, roasted vegetables and salad. Every bite was a delight. Everyone had seconds, even me who was busy catching up with friends and family! I'm attaching a photo of Rachel and the food to give a sense of how much attention was paid to every detail.

OTC can create fare in almost any style of cuisine. Couples can choose between hors d'oeuvres, cocktail reception, family style, stations, or a plated meal. The chefs will also prepare your desserts.

We source all natural, 100% antibiotic & hormone free meats, raised on pasture feed and finished on grain. All of our purveyors are aware of our standards. We try and source the nearest possible farms to create a wholesome trustworthy menu. Our strive is to continue pushing the limits of building relationships with farms and consumers, as well as educating our customers on the importance of farm to table. We will make the promise to our guests that our first goal is to bring the best product possible, fresh from the farm to our kitchens.
